Environmental Toxicants and Testicular Apoptosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
When apoptosis is improperly activated or regulated in the testis, infertility or even cancer can result. Studies have implicated elevated rates of apoptosis in infertile male patients. Pinpointing how environmental toxicity affects apoptosis is important for the advancement of preventative medicine and behavior, especially as potentially harmful compounds continue to proliferate in households and workplaces. Moreover, familiarity with testicular processes, particularly the induction of apoptosis, is essential for promoting male fertility. This review examines environmental toxicants that have been implicated in testicular apoptosis. We elucidate the mechanistic pathways through which specific xenobiotic compounds trigger cell death in the testis. This review highlights the role of oxidative stress in mediating these

Pmn-16: The Effect of Environmental Contaminants on Testicular Function
Male reproductive health has deteriorated considerably in the last few decades. Nutritional, socioeconomic, lifestyle and environmental factors (among others) have been attributed to compromising male reproductive health. In recent years, a large volume of evidence has accumulated that suggests that the trend of decreasing male fertility (in terms of sperm count, quality and other changes in ma...

متن کاملP-13: Male Reproductive Organs Are at Riskfrom Environmental Hazards
Background: Male reproductive disorders that are of interest from an environmental point of view include sexual dysfunction, infertility, cryptorchidism, hypospadias and testicular cancer. Several reports suggest declining sperm counts and increase of these reproductive disorders in some areas during some time periods past 50 years. Materials and Methods: Except for testicular cancer this evide...
متن کاملEnvironmental toxicant-induced germ cell apoptosis in the human fetal testis.
BACKGROUND Disorders of the male reproductive system are increasing in prevalence. The term testicular dysgenesis syndrome emphasizes the importance of developmental influences on the aetiology of conditions including cryptorchidism, testicular germ cell cancer and reduced spermatogenesis. Men whose mothers smoked during pregnancy have lower sperm production. Cigarette smoke contains agents act...
متن کاملOxidative stress: a common factor in testicular dysfunction.
Oxidative stress results from the production of oxygen radicals in excess of the antioxidant capacity of the stressed tissue. Many conditions or events associated with male infertility are inducers of oxidative stress. X-irradiation, for example, or exposure to environmental toxicants and the physical conditions of varicocele and cryptorchidism have been demonstrated to increase testicular oxid...
